Os Argumentos Formais dos Platonistas em Favor da Existência das Ideias no ΠΕΡΙ ΙΔΕΩΠe na Metafísica A9 de Aristóteles

RESUMO: Em Metafísica Α, 9 (990b 8-29), Aristóteles nomeia e critica cinco argumentos usados pelos platonistas para provar a existência das ideias. A exposição aristotélica, contudo, é muito breve e não inclui nem a demonstração nem a refutação completas de nenhum dos argumentos. Não fossem os comentários de Alexandre de Afrodísia, que complementam o texto da Metafísica com citações e paráfrases do livro ΠΕΡΙ ΙΔΕΩÎ, obra da qual nos restam apenas fragmentos e onde Aristóteles teria exposto, pela primeira vez, uma crítica formal à teoria das ideias, a passagem permaneceria totalmente enigmática e incompreensível. Nosso objetivo, neste artigo, é reconstituir, com base no texto de Alexandre, os argumentos dos platonistas e as críticas de Aristóteles a cada um deles. Acreditamos que tal reconstituição possa ser proveitosa para os estudiosos da área, sobretudo devido à escassez de bibliografia em nossa língua. Pretendemos, ainda, apresentar ao leitor um panorama crítico do texto aristotélico em questão, explorando alguns de seus principais comentadores.

ABSTRACT: In Metaphysics A, 9 (990b 8-29), Aristotle mentions and criticizes five arguments, which are said to be used by the Platonists for the existence of Ideas. The passage is very brief, though, and does not present a systematic account of these arguments or a complete exposition of his line of refutation. In fact, the whole passage would be unintelligible, if not for the comments of Alexander of Aphrodisias, who offers complement to the text quoting and referring to the content of the ΠΕΡΙ ΙΔΕΩÎ, a lost book in which Aristotle brings forward a formal criticism to the Theory of Ideas. In this paper, we use Alexander's commentary to recompose the five mentioned arguments and the objections Aristotle makes to each of them. Further, we deal with the secondary literature on the issue in order to give a critical overview of Aristotle's text.
