RESUMOOs cientistas possuem umaautoimagem heróica sobre si mesmos e seu trabalho de investigação. Entretanto,pode-se observar que a produção do conhecimento tem adquirido gradativamentefeições cada vez mais industriais. Uma autoimagem mais adequada seria,portanto, a de um operário. A industrialização não é um acidente no processo dedesenvolvimento do conhecimento científico, mas sua expressão natural maisacabada. Embora várias modalidades de humanismo critiquem essa crescenteindustrialização, não parece que ela atinja o que é fundamental ou possa terqualquer efeito prático. Tudo indica que apenas a contradição entre aindustrialização crescente e o estilo de vida democrático poderá gerar umdesenlace promissor no futuro. However,it can be seen that the productionof knowledge has gradually gained increasing industrialfeatures. A mostsuitable self-image would be, therefore, that of a worker. Industrializationis not an accident in the process ofdevelopment of scientific knowledge,but his natural and more finished expression. Although various forms of humanism criticize this growing industrialization,it doesn't seem that it reach whatis essential or would have any practical effect. Everythingsuggests the contradiction between the growingindustrialization and democraticway of life may generate apromising outcome in the future.
