Entre antropologia e história: Fragmentos do debate racial na França do pós-guerra

Resumo

O esforço deste artigo é o de capturar algumas das relações entre antropologia e história na passagem do século XIX para o XX e fundamentalmente na metade deste. Argumenta-se que por volta dos anos 1950 um debate específico iluminou de modo surpreendente a noção de História, que havia sido deixada de lado pela teoria antropológica no momento de sua consolidação como ciência da alteridade e da diversidade cultural em oposição ao evolucionismo. Através dos trabalhos paralelos de Claude Lévi-Strauss (1908-2009) e Michel Leiris (1901-1990), ao mesmo tempo similares em propósito e distintos em forma e conteúdo, vê-se como através de sua articulação negativa com a noção de raça, a História passa a ganhar novos sentidos. Os autores exploram ainda as relações entre tempo, cultura e política.

Between Anthropology and History: Fragments of the Racial Debate in Postwar France

This paper's effort is to grasp some of the relationships between anthropology and history in the period spanning from the end of the 19th century until the mid-20^th century. We put forward the idea that during the 1950s a specific debate shed a surprising light over the notion of History, which had been cast aside by anthropological theory in the moment of its consolidation as a science of alterity and cultural diversity, in opposition to evolutionism. Through the works of Claude Lévi-Strauss (1908-2009) and Michel Leiris (1901-1990) - similar in their goals but distinct in their form and content - we see that through their negative articulation of the notion of race, History gained new meanings. These authors also explore the relationship between time, culture and politics.
