Resumo

Abstract: The work presents the trajectory of the sambista and artist Ednei Pedro Mariano, who has been working in carnival parades since the end of the 1960s. Nascimento claims that they are transatlantic territories that preserve and gather knowledge from quilombos. Mariano, in addition to witnessing the transformations that took place throughout the years, is also the protagonist of these transformations. As a methodology, specialized bibliography, observation of records of carnival parades in digital media and interviews with the artist were used. The article is part of an ongoing research on the histories of black dances in the city of São Paulo.

Keywords: dance history; acquilombed knowledge; samba school parade; mestre-sala and porta-bandeira.
