Abstract
This paper aims to demonstrate how the relationship between religiosity, gender and traditional community practices has allowed the construction of a popular movement of resistance to mining in the community of Pires, Congonhas-MG. To this end, it is part of the description of the cleaning event of the silted up springs due to the activities of the National Steel Company (CSN), led in 2010 by five women from the community, and the recovery of two ritual practices: the baptism of the children's legs in Agua Santa and the cleaning joint effort of the “regão”, a water collection made by the residents themselves.
