Credit and Trust: An Analysis of the Economic Relations between Family Farmers in the Community of São Lourenço, Nova Friburgo – RJ

Abstract

The article  is about the credit relations between family farmers of the community of São Lourenço, in Nova Friburgo (RJ). Those relations, which usually replaces the institutional loans, are stablished without any kind of formalization or legal contract and are based in values and moralities that differs from those related to the positive law and economic system, but they allow the farmers to figure in the “market”, becoming competitives. It discusses two moralities that are present in the same time on those relations: the one represented as local, related to the persons involved in the relation, and the one related to the logic of the positive law and the economic system, associated to the promotion of the egalitarian principles of an individual ideology, based in impersonal and determined norms.
