The paper analyzes the aesthetics of violence as a representation of the countryman in God and the Devil in the Land of the Sun (1964) by Glauber Rocha. The aesthetics developed by the filmmaker broke with the form and content of film production in the country, problematizing the antagonisms present in Brazilian society, such as drought, class conflicts and exploitation, critically represented. Thus, the study develops the discussion between art and society aiming to highlight the intrinsic relationship between subjectivity and material life.Downloads
