COLLEGIA, PROTESTA POPULAR Y VIOLENCIA DURANTE LA CARESTÍA DE GRANOS EN ROMA (58-56 A. C.)

Este artículo analiza la actuación de los collegia y la plebe urbana en Roma durante la crisis de subsistencia de los años 58-56 a. C., proponiendo una relectura de la movilización popular que trascienda la supuesta instrumentalización por parte de Publio Clodio. A través de un análisis crítico de la retórica de Cicerón, se busca desarticular la invectiva que estigmatiza la protesta. El trabajo sostiene que los collegia operaron como una base de organización preexistente que permitió a los sectores subalternos articular una agencia política autónoma frente al incumplimiento de las funciones de abastecimiento del Estado. Los resultados indican que la plebe actuó bajo una racionalidad política clara, utilizando los espacios de los juegos y templos para forzar soluciones institucionales. Enmarcado en las nuevas perspectivas sobre la cultura política de la República tardía, el estudio concluye afirmando la primacía de la demanda social sobre la dirección facciosa, consolidando a las asociaciones como actores fundamentales del proceso histórico.
