Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to identify correlates of and analyze variations in null and blank votes rates in the State of Rio de Janeiro across elections held under two different political regimes: the first, in 1962, took place during a period characterized by political institutions and practices which closely resembled those of political pluralism and the second in 1974 under an authorita rian regime.
