Abstract

Tibagi region, in center-eastern portion of Paraná State, is one of the oldest areas of diamond and gold mining in Brazil and has been socially affected by this activity and its fluctuation in the production along more than 250 years. Special geological and historical-geographical conditions found in this region can be decisive for a different development in social point-of-view of others mining áreas in Brazil. Historical and economic consequences of this process establish a cultural heritage disclosed by some features in community daily.
