The present paper intends to show the importance of performing a rigorous analysis of the differential spatial rates of deposition of pollen and spores in underwater environments to a better correlation with the vegetation of origin. The spatial analysis of palynomorphs deposition in the surface layer of bottom sediments of water bodies shows different patterns from site to site and may be helpful in studies of sedimentology. The results of pollen analysis of these sediments are related to the major environmental influences on subaquatic sedimentation of pollen and spores, i.e., bathymetry, prevailing currents and winds.Downloads
