Virtude acabada e vício acabado

Resumo

Esta análise comparativa opõe as noções de virtude acabada e de vício acabado segundo as três modalidades fundadas sobre as significações do termo teleios retiradas da Metafísica Ä, 16. Assim, enquanto 'acabado' é comprendido, por um lado, no sentido de 'completo' e, no outro, no sentido de 'perfeito', o autor sustenta que a oposição é ilustrada nos dois casos -- mas por razões diferentes -- pelos estados de justiça e de injustiça geral. Quando 'acabado' significa mais propriamente 'final', são a sabedoria e a intemperança que desempenham o papel de contrários. Esses três tipos de contraste correspondem, por outro lado, à representação aristotélica da felicidade e da infelicidade humanas.

Abstract

This comparative analysis opposes the notions of accomplished virtue and accomplished vice according to the three modalities which are based on the meanings of the term teleios extracted from the Metaphysics Ä, 16. Thus, whereas, on one hand, one understands 'accomplished' in the sense of 'complete' and, on the other hand, in the sense of 'perfect', the author sustains that in both senses the opposition is elucidated -- though for different reasons - by the general states of justice and injustice. When 'accomplished' means 'final', wisdom and intemperance play the role of contraries. These three kinds of contrast correspond, on the other hand, to the Aristotelian representation of human happiness and unhappiness.
