Abstract.
The paper presents a study on Leibniz’s applications of his combinatorial art to the musical field. First, we
elucidate some fundamental concepts, and some procedures of Leibnizian combinatory, and we show the
musical uses suggested by Leibniz for these procedures. Then, we discuss the general scope of the combinatorial
approach in music, and we conclude that Leibniz anticipates, in Dissertatio, the introduction of
some procedures related to contemporary music.
