Predicação e verbo substantivo em Abelardo

Resumo

O verbo ser/estar (esse - einai) constitui um elemento essencial nas análises gramatical e semântica da predicação realizadas desde a história antiga até hoje. Chamado de 'verbo substantivo' já a partir da Antiguidade, esse verbo ser/estar possui duas funções básicas que determinam as interpretações lingüísticas e lógicas: nomeadamente, seu uso existencial e seu uso copulativo. No século XII, Abelardo apresenta nos seus tratados lógicos sua própria concepção da predicação com relação a esse verbo substantivo, notadamente uma teoria dita excepcional por parte de alguns medievalistas contemporâneos importantes, a qual constituiria um antecedente isolado na história do pensamento à lógica proposicional fregeana. O nosso objetivo é, em um primeiro momento, apresentar os principais componentes da interpretação abelardiana da predicação e do verbo substantivo. À luz de recentes estudos, veremos, em seguida, se a análise bipartida da proposição proposta por Abelardo merece esse atributo de ser excepcional.

Abstract

The verb to be (esse - einai) represents an essential element in grammatical and semantic analysis of predication from the antique history to the present day. Named 'substantive verb' since the Antiquity, the verb 'to be' have two basic functions, which determine linguistic and logical interpretations, especially its existential use and its copulative use. In the XIIth century, Abelard presents, in his logical treatises, his own vision of predication related to this substantive verb, in particular a theory said exceptional, by some important contemporary medievalists, which would represent an isolated antecedent in the history of ideas of Fregean propositional logic. Our objective is first, to present the main lines of the Abelardian interpretation of predication and substantive verb. In the light of recent studies, we will see hereafter if the two-part analysis of the proposition proposed by Abelard merits this attribution of being exceptional.
