Resumo

In search of an original approach to architecture and urban planning, Le Corbusier followed an interdisciplinary trajectory and interacted with different fields of knowledge. During the formative period, the future master became acquainted with several artistic movements that arose as responses to an increase in mass-produced objects. These movements strove to adjust to the techno-scientific revolutionby defining a synthesis between art and industry. In this context, Le Corbusier invented a new aesthetic paradigm derived from the purism inherent in geometric language. His work was thus marked by a combination of idealism and rationalism, which was translated in terms of functionalism, economy and standardization. Le Corbusier was absolutely convinced that architecture would determine social reform and render revolution unnecessary. However, despite the authoritarian and utopian tone of the theoretical discourses, Le Corbusier was a distinguished personality of the twentieth-century modernist avant-garde and his professional achievements have strongly influenced following generations.
