Abstract

In a journey through Portuguese poetics and poetry, which includes Camões, Cesário and the poets of the 20th century (Fiama Hasse Pais Brandão, Luiza Neto Jorge, Maria Teresa Horta, Herberto Helder and Jorge de Sena as key scenes), this essay focuses on the spelling of a jubilant poetics that is situated at the confluence - which includes interaction and overcoming - of two major strands of Portuguese poetry: testimony and feigning. What I call the Poetics of Jubilation corresponds to a certain state of affection, in Spinoza’s sense, of being in freedom and of being a free subject in its singularity in the poem.
