BABILÔNIA SELÊUCIDA: HELENIZAÇÃO OU ISOLAMENTO? EVERGETAS, RAINHAS E AMIGOS NAS FONTES GREGAS E ACADIANAS DA CULTURA ESCRIBAL BABILÔNICA (SÉCS. IV E III AEC)

Résumé

Após as guerras entre os sucessores de Alexandre no final do século IV A.E.C., o império selêucida afirmou-se como uma das três potências de primeira ordem do mundo helenístico, estendendo-se da Índia ao Mediterrâneo. Diante da grande diversidade cultural e sócio-política das várias regiões do império, a dinastia adotou formas diferentes de construção da autoridade. Este artigo discute tal processo a partir da Babilônia, um dos centros mais importantes do império, onde os selêucidas confiaram aos sacerdotes do templo de Esagila, dedicado ao deus Marduk, a posição de retransmissores locais do poder imperial, promovendo uma interação entre a cultura escribal babilônica e a koinḗ helenística. Para discutir os modos desta interação, primeiro, identificamos a forma como os textos histórico-literários babilônicos e as inscrições se envolvem com topoi literários e conceitos da koinḗ helenística. Segundo, analisamos o modo como os sacerdotes relacionaram esses motivos helenísticos àqueles de sua tradição. A partir desses dois passos, argumentamos que os textos babilônicos mostram três novas tendências ligadas à cultura helenística e à ideologia selêucida — isto é, o foco nas rainhas, a valorização dos amigos do rei (phíloi toû basiléōs / kên šarri), e o engajamento com o discurso evergético. Com isso, argumentamos que, além de incorporar topoi típicos da literatura helenística, a apropriação desses temas representa uma tentativa dos sacerdotes babilônicos em entender o funcionamento do império selêucida a partir de seus próprios conceitos helenísticos.

Desde 2018, é Professor Adjunto de História Antiga do Departamento de História da Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, docente-pesquisador permanente do Programa de Pós-Graduação em História da mesma universidade, e líder do grupo de pesquisa MITHRA - Laboratório de Historia Antiga Global (CNPq). É bacharel e licenciado em História pela Universidade de São Paulo (2005), onde também obteve o título de mestre (2009) e doutor (2015) em História Social. Sua dissertação, intitulada "A democracia ateniense pelo avesso", recebeu o Prêmio de melhor dissertação em História Social da USP em 2010; sua tese, "Atenas e o Mediterrâneo romano (sécs. II a.C.-I d.C.)", recebeu o Prêmio de melhor tese em História Social da USP em 2016. Publicou, em 2014, o livro "A democracia ateniense pelo avesso", pela Edusp. Atualmente, desenvolve pesquisas sobre o período helenístico na perspectiva da História Global, com ênfase na relação entre ambiente, cidades e impérios no Mediterrâneo e Oriente Próximo.Foi Coordenador do Programa de Pós-Graduação em História da UFSC (2020-2023), Coordenador de Extensão do Departamento de História da UFSC (desde 2018-2023), membro do Núcleo Docente Estruturante do Curso de Graduação em História (2018-2023), membro do Colegiado do Curso de Graduação em História da UFSC (2018-2021) e conselheiro da Editora da UFSC (2020-2023).
