Pandemias e transformações globais: Covid-19 à luz das experiências históricas

De que forma as pandemias do passado podem trazer luz às transformações globais ensejadas pela atual pandemia do Covid-19? Neste artigo, lançamos a hipótese de que a história ambiental alterna entre períodos de maior conectividade – inclusive de patógenos – e períodos subsequentes de retraimento político-econômico-cultural. Para tanto, fazemos primeiramente um breve resumo de algumas das mais devastadoras pandemias históricas e suas consequências para depois dialogar com dois autores (Peter Zeihan e John Mearsheimer) que preveem um mundo pós-Covid com maior acirramento das disputas geopolíticas, fechamento de fronteiras e desglobalização.
