Journal Regulations
I. PRESENTATION
Article 1: SLOVO – The Journal of Slavic Studies – is the official publication of SLAV – Slavic Studies Research Group of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, in electronic format, available at: https://revistas.ufrj.br/index.php/slovo/index
II. OBJECTIVES
Article 2: The focus of SLOVO is on the cultural manifestations of the Slavic peoples (Czechs, Slovaks, Poles, Moravians, Bulgarians, Bosnians, Macedonians, Croats, Slovenes, Serbs, Montenegrins, Ukrainians, Byelorussians, Russians);
III. CHARACTERISTICS OF SLOVO:
Article 3:
- the journal is a semestral publication;
-Slovo is a peer-reviewed journaland publishes: 1) articles of original and significant research and interpretationby Brazilian and foreign researchers; 2) interviews with leading scholars in the areas of interest within the scope of the journal; and 3) book, thesis and dissertations reviews, relevant to the field of Slavic studies.
IV. EDITORIAL BOARD
Article 4: The magazine's editorial board is comprised of an editor-in-chief, an editorial committee, an advisory board, and a revisions team.
i. The Editor-in-chief’s Attributions:
- to organize and distribute the work of the journal among the other members of the editorial staff;
- to provide information concerning the publication of each journal issue;
- to keep updated the journal’s web page;
- to ensure the proper functioning of the channels of communication among the members of the journal’s editorial staff;
- to call for editorial committee meetings;
- to oversee the implementation of the editorial committee’s decisions;
- to ensure that the periodicity of the journal’s publications is maintained;
ii. The Editorial Committee’s Responsibilities:
- to secure the proper conditions for the publication and dissemination of the journal;
- to evaluate the journal's reports;
- to propose changes in the Directives and Bylaws of the Journal;
- to resolve cases not covered by these Bylaws;
- to define the profile of each journal issue;
- to establish text standards for the editions;
- to monitor and follow-up on the journal's publication process;
- to promote the dissemination of the journal;
- to decide on the appropriateness of the texts for each publication;
- to suggest contacts of foreign and national specialists when commissioning articles on specific topics;
- to ensure that the periodicity of the journal’s publication is maintained;
- to suggest the names of recognized specialists in an area of interest for purposes of carrying out interviews with them for the journal;
iii. The Advisory Board’s Incumbencies:
- to produce opinions on the works related to their individual fields of expertise;
- to propose ad hoc evaluators for the journal whenever necessary;
iv. The Revisions Team Responsibilities:
- to review and edit articles approved for publication in the journal.
V. SUBMISSION
Article 5:Submissions to SLOVO are made in a continuous flow, except for the first two issues as well as in the case of special issues, for which there will be specific calls, observing the requirements established by the Editorial Committee.
Article 6:Journal Collaborators may publish only one article / review / interview per individual SLOVO edition at the same issue.
VI. EVALUATION
Article 7:The articles submitted for publication in SLOVO are subject to anonymous evaluation by two ad hoc readers of recognized academic excellence in the field of expertise to which the article is related.
Article 8:The evaluation is carried out through a double-blind review system: the readers do not know the identity of the author, and the author does not know the identity of the readers.
Article 9:After evaluating the submission, the readers indicate whether it should be accepted - as is, unchanged, pending changes or be rejected.
Article 10:When there is agreement between the readers, the editor accepts the opinion emitted.
Article 11:In cases of divergent evaluations, a third ad hoc reader or a member of the editorial council is indicated for a final position.
Article 12:Evaluators may be members of the Editorial Board or outside experts suggested by them.
Article 13:Authors whose texts are rejected shall receive the readers’ evaluations omitting the names of their respective authors.
VII. THE EDITORIAL COMMITTEE COMPOSITION
Article 14:The Editorial Committee shall consist of at least three members in addition to the Editor-in-chief of SLOVO;
Article 15:Members of the Editorial Committee may not publish texts in the "Articles" section. They may, however, conduct interviews and publish reviews.
Article 16:All members of the Editorial Committee must have a PhD.
VIII. THE EDITORIAL COUNCIL MEMBERSHIP
Article 17:The SLOVO Editorial Council shall consist of at least 12 (twelve) members, all with a doctoral degree and training in fields within the scope of SLOVO.
IX. EDITORIAL MANAGEMENT
Article 18:An editor-in-chief may be in charge of managing the journal for a term of four (4) years, and reelected for four more years, pending an election by the Editorial Committee.
Article 19:After the period of four (4) years referred to in Article 18, there shall be elections for a new or the same editor to carry out the work in SLOVO.
X. EXCEPTIONS
Article 20:Any dispute, appeal or omission in the current regulations shall be referred to and resolved by the Editorial Committee of SLOVO.
Peer Review Process
SLOVO - Journal of Slavic Studies uses double-blind review, which means that both the reviewer and author identities are concealed from the reviewers, and vice versa, throughout the review process.
To facilitate this, authors need to ensure that their manuscripts are prepared in a way that does not give away their identity.
Open Access Policy
SLOVO is a journal published by SLAV - Slavic Studies Group using a license Creative Commons 4.0 a (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0).
a. Authors retain copyright and grant the journal right of first publication with the work simultaneously licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution License that allows others to share the work with an acknowledgement of the work's authorship and initial publication in this journal.
b. Authors are able to enter into separate, additional contractual arrangements for the non-exclusive distribution of the journal's published version of the work (e.g., post it to an institutional repository or publish it in a book), with an acknowledgement of its initial publication in this journal.
c. Authors are permitted and encouraged to post their work online (e.g., in institutional repositories or on their website) prior to and during the submission process, as it can lead to productive exchanges, as well as earlier and greater citation of published work (See The Effect of Open Access).
