Resumo

This special issue explores the historical and contemporary interconnections between media, sports, and technology. We begin this introductory text by arguing how, since the 19th century, these elements have shaped modernization and capitalism, for example, through the standardization of rules, the pursuit of records, and the use of media and technologies to resolve uncertainties. We also discuss how the dynamics of technological innovation and implementation relate to sports experiences in different contexts. In the second part, we present the eight articles (one translation, one interview, and six original papers) that make up this dossier. Together, they provide an important contribution to the Portuguese-language bibliography on the relationships between media, sports, and technology, and on topics such as mediatization, visualities, datafication, practices, and consumption.
