"FOOT-BALL" NA AREIA E BANHOS DE SOL NO RIO DE JANEIRO (1917-1940)

Resumo

Resumo: Este artigo associa o aparecimento do futebol de areia no Rio de Janeiro à grande inflexão dos costumes balneários catalisada pelo advento dos banhos de sol, a partir da 1ª Guerra Mundial. Apresenta a "Liga de Amadores de Foot-ball na Areia", fundada na praia de Copacabana, e descreve as tensões - entre banhistas e jogadores, entre policiais e jogadores, entre jogadores do bairro e jogadores do morro, entre os próprios jogadores da LAFA - que caracterizaram os primeiros anos da experiência carioca nessa modalidade do esporte.

BEACH SOCCER AND SUNBATH IN RIO DE JANEIRO (1917-1940)

Abstract: This article relates the emergence of beach soccer in Rio de Janeiro to the great shift in the sea bathing habits catalyzed by the advent of sunbathing, since World War I. It introduces the "Liga de Amadores de Foot-ball na Areia" (Amateur League of Beach Soccer), founded in Copacabana beach, and describes the tensions - between bathers and players, between police officers and players, between the neighborhood players and the favela players, among the LAFA players themselves - that marked the first years of the carioca experience in this modality of the sport.
