FOICES E MARTELOS NO OLIMPO: A POLÍTICA ESPORTIVA DA UNIÃO SOVIÉTICA E AS RELAÇÕES COM O MUNDO CAPITALISTA

Resumo

Resumo: O objetivo é examinar os principais fatores que explicam a política soviética para o esporte, em particular sua relação com o esporte internacional burguês. O argumento central aponta que, na década de 1920, tal política era voltada para um desenvolvimento harmonioso do indivíduo em face da necessidade de preparação para o trabalho e a defesa da União Soviética, bem como para uma crítica ao esporte competitivo burguês, que refletia uma estrutura socioeconômica de exploração dos indivíduos. Diante da decepção com o desempenho limitado do movimento esportivo comunista e do fortalecimento do esporte capitalista a partir da década de 1930, os soviéticos passaram a trabalhar dentro das organizações esportivas burguesas a fim de fortalecer o uso do esporte para a ampliação do prestígio nacional, a mobilização de trabalhadores estrangeiros e a demonstração da superioridade do regime comunista.

HAMMER AND SICKLE ON OLYMPUS: SOVIET SPORTS POLICY AND THE RELATIONS WITH THE CAPITALIST WORLD

Abstract: The objective is to examine the main factors that explain Soviet policy for sport, in particular its relationship with the international bourgeois sport. The central argument points out that, in the 1920s, this policy was aimed at the harmonious development of the individual in the light of the need to prepare for work and defense of the Soviet Union, as well as at a critique of bourgeois competitive sport, which reflected a socioeconomic structure of exploitation of individuals. Faced with the disappointment with the limited performance of the communist sport movement and strengthening of the capitalist sport from the 1930s, the Soviets began to work within the bourgeois sports organizations in order to strengthen the use of sport for the expansion of national prestige, the mobilization of foreign workers and the demonstration of the superiority of the communist regime.
