A ESQUERDA CONTRA-ATACA: REBELDIA E CONTESTAÇÃO POLÍTICA NO FUTEBOL BRASILEIRO (1970-1978)

Resumo: Este estudo analisa as formas de manifestação política relacionadas ao futebol, observadas no Brasil durante a década de 1970. Observamos no contexto do futebol a deflagração de um embate entre as forças conservadoras e a esquerda no cenário político brasileiro. Nesse período, diferentes sujeitos, ligados aos grupos de oposição, também se apropriaram do espaço comunicativo criado em torno do futebol para exteriorizar seus ideais políticos. Desse modo, o esporte serviu tanto aos interesses do Estado quanto aos interesses dos sujeitos ligados à esquerda brasileira. Essas ações ganharam coro nas atitudes de jogadores e artistas, e na mídia em geral. Nesse cenário, a imprensa esportiva figurou-se como a principal mediadora tanto das lutas simbólicas travadas entre jogadores, técnicos, dirigentes e aficionados pelo futebol, como das ações e atos oficiais do governo.

THE LEFT STRIKES BACK: REBELLION AND POLITICAL CONTESTATION IN BRAZILIAN FOOTBALL (1970-1978)

Abstract: This study analyzes forms of political manifestations related to soccer (football), observed in Brazil in the course of the 1970's years. We observed, in the context of soccer, the outbreak of a dispute between conservative power and the left forces in the Brazilian political scene. In this period, different subjects, linked to opposition groups, also used the communicative space created around the sport in order to externalize their political ideals. Thus, the sport served the interests of both the state and the Brazilian leftists. These actions generated the involvement of soccer players, artists, and the media in general. In this context, the sport press figured as the main mediator of both the symbolic battles engaged amid soccer players, coaches, managers, and fans, and the official acts and actions of the State.
