A INTRODUÇÃO DOS ESPORTES NO RIO DE JANEIRO

Resumo

Resumo: O trabalho analisa a institucionalização do esporte náutico, na cidade do Rio de Janeiro, como prática social burguesa, excludente e hierarquizadora, que se desenvolve juntamente com os modelos higienistas e a crença no aprimoramento da raça, na virada para o século XX. Refletindo as transformações estruturais pelas quais passava o país, a espetacularização das regatas ofereceu aos setores da elite carioca a possibilidade de externarem suas visões de mundo, veiculando comportamentos considerados mais adequados para os habitantes da Capital Federal. Desse modo, trazendo no seu bojo os conceitos de civilidade, modernidade e progresso, o remo se impôs como signo de distinção social, inventado para forjar a identidade social de diversos grupos da elite urbana emergente.

THE SPORTS' INTRODUCTION IN RIO DE JANEIRO

Abstract: The work analyzes the nautical sport institutionalization, at the Rio de Janeiro city, as burgeois social practice, exclusivist and of hierarchical authority, that develops jointly with the hygienist models and the belief in the race improvement, in the turn for the century XX. Reflecting the structural transformations by the which passed the country, the regattas presentation offered to the sectors of the carioca elite the possibility of exteriorizing theirs views of the world, divulging behaviors considered more adequate for the inhabitants from the Federal Capital. In this manner, bringing in its bulge the concepts of civility, modernity and progress, the oar imposed itself as sign of social distinction, invented to forge the social identity of diverse groups of the emergent urban elite.
