Abstract

In this zoom interview on 29th September 2023, Thelma Vilas Boas describes and reflects on the initiation procedure of the Lanchonete <> Lanchonete project and developments, such as the School to Come, in ongoing dialogue and interaction with its Pequena África (Little Africa) neighbourhood in Rio de Janeiro. The artist critically and, at the same time, proactively challenges the contemporary art world, arguing on issues such as whiteness and its narcissistic pact, racism, and the urgency of remedial policies and anticolonial practices that start with a transforming gesture: opening wide the doors to the street and listening to what it has to say.
