Resumo

This article presents the results of a study of interurban air travel in Brazil, where the influence of distance on traffic generation is analysed based in one of the must widely known of the hypotheses about the density of intercity travel which suggest that the number of trips occurring between two cities is greater as the populations of the two cities are larger and smaller as the two cities are farther apart. The method used is the comparation of a true hierarchical pattern (based in the number of passengers between the cities with a the oretical one in two different periods of time to ascertain the evolution of this relationship.
