Abstract

Botanical studies have been developed since 1995 where is now the Restinga de Jurubatiba National Park (RJNP), as part of the Carapebus Project sponsored by the National Museum/UFRJ. This conservation unit was created on April 29, 1998, and has as its main goals the preservation of the last remnants of restinga vegetation in the region as well as natural habitats for the flora. Research has been done in several different areas of botany, zoology, and ecology, resulting in significant publications in the form of monographs, master’s dissertations, doctoral theses, and abstracts in the annals of various events (122 botanical papers, listed herein). The Flora of the RJNP is included in this context, crowning a decade of taxonomic studies in the region. The presentation of this flora confirms a growing interest in restinga ecosystems and is also an effective tool to produce human resources.
