Abstract

A survey of the species of Polygonaceae from the Restinga de Jurubatiba National Park in northern Rio de Janeiro State was carried out. “Restingas” are sandy coastal plains found along the entire Brazilian coast. The family is represented in this park by two genera and seven species: Coccoloba (with four species): C. alnifolia Casar., C. arborescens (Vell) R.A.Howard, C. declinata (Vell.) Mart. and C. rigida Meisn., and Polygonum (with three species): P. acuminatum Kunth, P. hydropiperoides Michx., and P. punctatum Elliott. Keys are provided for genera and species,; descriptions and illustrations are provided.
