Gall midges species (Diptera, Cecidomyiidae) recorded from Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil

Abstract

A preliminary list of the species of Cecidomyiidae from Rio de Janeiro State, southeastern Brazil, is presented. The list, which was prepared based on a careful survey of the literature and examination of the unique reference collection of the group in Brazil, includes 104 gall midge species in 51 genera. The distribution of each species within the State (municipalities) is given. Most of the recorded species are from restinga areas, which are part of the Atlantic Forest of Brazil, very fragmented nowadays.
