The article describes the historical process of construction of the Waiãpi Council. It discusses its fonctionament, its relations with the waiãpi social organization and the indigenous interpretations about the council. The author arguments the place of this council in the waiãpi relations with the non-indians and she points out the success and the difficulties of this kind of organization.
