Abstract

Recent field work in the central-western part of Brazil revealed bioturbations in the Irati Formation. Those biogenic structures were identified as Didymaulichnus lyelli (Rouault, 1850), probably produced by gastropods. The ichnofossil “Amaralia paulistana”, previously identified as an pseudoichnofossil of this formation, is now recognized as a sedimentary structure. Thus, the presence of D. lyelli constitutes the first occurrence of invertebrate ichnofossils in the Irati Formation, extending the stratigraphic distribution of this ichnogenus in Brazil to the Upper Permian.
