The family Belostomatidae Leach, 1815 (Insecta, Hemiptera, Heteroptera): a key and a catalogue to the species ocurring in Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil

Abstract

The species of genera Belostoma Latreille, 1807 and Lethocerus Mayr, 1853 from Rio de Janeiro state are reviewed for the first time. In this work the following 15 species of Belostoma and five ones of Lethocerus were recorded and catalogued: Belostoma anurum (Herrich-Schäffer), B. aurivillianum (Montandon), B. candidulum Montandon, B. costalimai De Carlo, B. dentatum (Mayr), B. dilatatum (Dufour), B. discretum Montandon, B. foveolatum (Mayr), B. horvathi Montandon, B. micantulum (Stål), B. plebejum (Stål), B. ribeiroi De Carlo, B. sanctulum Montandon, B. stollii (Amyot & Serville), B. testaceopallidum Latreille,Lethocerus annulipes (Herrich-Schäffer), L. delpontei De Carlo, L. grandis (Linnaeus), L. maximus De Carlo, and L. melloleitaoi De Carlo. A key to these species is given. Six species are first recorded from this state: B. aurivillianum, B. candidulum, B. dilatatum, B. discretum, B. ribeiroi, and B. sanctulum.
