Anthropocene traces: looking at the violence inscribed in the Earth's crust

Resumo

Apresentamos ao longo do texto três registros estratigráficos criados por diferentes culturas humanas, todos reveladores de diferentes formas de violências passadas e presentes que atuam na contemporaneidade e são reveladas visualmente. Produções visuais, sejam artísticas,  arqueológicas ou poéticas trazem à tona tais registros, dando visibilidade às violências e às desigualdades da sociedade ocidental. A emergência do Antropoceno contribui ao lançar uma nova compreensão da paisagem contemporânea e a possibilidade de acessar tais registros.

Abstract

We present throughout the text three stratigraphic records created by different human cultures, all of them revealing different forms of past and present violences which operate in contemporaneity and are revealed visually. Visual productions, whether artistic, archaeological or poetic, bring such records to light, giving visibility to the violence and inequalities of Western society. The emergence of the Anthropocene contributes by launching a new understanding of the contemporary landscape and the possibility of accessing such records.
