The old Cine Pala cio of Joinville was a street cinema that remained active until the mid-1990s, when it succumbed to technological decline in the face of the modernization of the movie theaters inside shopping malls. In Joinville, this building was the first case of compulsory patrimonialization, when the municipality acted in favor of its preservation as cultural heritage. However, it was necessary the engagement of a group of students provoked by news in the printed press of the city so that the patrimonialization of the space occurred. In this way, the intention of this article is to analyze how the uses that are made of cultural goods may or may not influence the decision making in favor of the patrimonialization of these spaces, as well as, through the emblematic case of the old Cine Pala cio of Joinville, Predecessors that led to its patrimonialization. This study is a cut of the doctoral thesis in Human Sciences, where I worked with the public policies of preservation of the cultural heritage of Joinville. For the moment, the conclusion is that in the case of Cine Pala cio, one of the great motivators of its patrimonialization was the new use given that space through the Universal Church.
