Aquilombing and resistance: introductory notes on a story of struggle and freedom

Résumé

Neste artigo refletimos sobre a experiência vivida nos quilombos e em que medida somos afetados por essa experiência singular. Em meio às formas de resistência ao escravismo no Brasil, os quilombos se tornaram referência importante. A forma de organização  coletiva empreendida pelos que se dispuseram a escapar do jugo dos senhores se consolidou de tal forma, que invariavelmente a ela  nos remetemos quando nos referimos à luta do povo negro no Brasil. Na verdade, os africanos que para cá foram trazidos sempre se
rebelaram e lutaram por uma vida livre das amarras da escravidão. A historiadora Beatriz Nascimento vê essa forma de organização  como movimento social e político. É essa perspectiva teórica que orienta este trabalho. Outrossim, é imperioso afirmar o quanto os rebelados foram testados na sua capacidade de resistência à perseguição imposta pelo poder colonial. Nesse sentido, recorremos a filosofia de Spinoza para pensar o que impulsiona o ser humano a buscar uma vida melhor e, mesmo nas condições mais adversas insiste nesse propósito.

Abstract
In this article we reflect on the experience lived in quilombos and to what extent we are affected by this unique experience. Amidst the forms of resistance to slavery in Brazil, quilombos became an important reference. The form of collective organization undertaken by those who were willing to escape the yoke of the masters was consolidated in such a way that we invariably refer to it when referring to the struggle of black people in Brazil. In fact, the Africans who were brought here always rebelled and fought for a life free from the bonds of slavery. Historian Beatriz Nascimento sees this form of organization as a social and political movement. It is this theoretical perspective that guides this work. Furthermore, it is imperative to state how much the rebels were tested in their ability to resist the persecution imposed by the colonial power. In this sense, we turn to Spinoza's philosophy to think about what drives human beings to
seek a better life and, even in the most adverse conditions, insists on this purpose.
