Abstrakt

An interpretation of A Sentimental Journey through France and Italy, by Laurence Sterne, emphasising the parodical aspect of the book, especially in relation to Smollett’s Travels through France and Italy; and the self-conscious exposure of its own artificiality, therefore discrediting any realistic/descriptive purpose; an attempt to redefine the function of space in the novel.
