The international financial crisis and the performance of the national state: the originality of the Brazilian case

Abstract

This paper investigates the performance of State implementation of countercyclical economic policies in combating financial crisis of 2008. Based on the ideas of Big Bank and Big Government seeks to emphasize the existence of distinct patterns of government intervention in developed countries and emerging countries. For this purpose it was pointed out some measures put into practice, especially in the U.S., and analyzes the exchange, monetary, fiscal and credit policies applied in the case of Brazil in the 2008-2010 biennium.
