Resumo

The Roman Empire, in despite of the political unity kept by the central government, was in fact a plural entity. Therefore, we cannot consider the so-called 'Romanisation' as an unique and homogeneous process. On the contrary, during all the imperial age we can find a lot of ethnic groups that never assimilated the Roman cultural patterns. Besides, these people in several occasions presented an earnest and violent reaction against the Roman rule, showing an amazing political resistance. In this article, we intend to analyze the historical situation of the Isaurians' in the Later Roman Empire and the reasons of their rebellion in 354 A, D.
