Resumo

This article deals with the Ancient Egyptians' voyages to unexplored seas, in the search of rare and important things for rituals and everyday life. These consisted of raw materials such as incense, spices, oils, ebony, timber, lapis lazuli, turquoise; to manufactured goods like music instrumental (lyra and flute), weapons, gold and silver objects, boats and chariots; animals: bulls, ostrichs, panthers, monkeys; and even persons: the pygmys. The need for these articles led the Egyptians, since the Ancient kingdom, to Asia, Western and Eastern deserts, to Nubia and Punt.
