ÁGUA EM MOEDA CORRENTE:: IMAGENS HIDRÁULICAS E SUA FORÇASIMBÓLICA NAS MOEDAS DO IMPÉRIO ROMANO (SÉCULOS I-III EC)

Resumo

Este artigo investiga as imagens hidráulicas presentes em moedas romanas cunhadas entre os séculos I e III EC, com ênfase em sua força simbólica e papel ideológico. Por meio de uma análise iconográfica e contextual de exemplares selecionados de Alexandria, Antioquia, Tel Dor, Roma, Óstia e outras cidades, discute-se como a água foi mobilizada como signo visual de prosperidade, identidade cívica e integração imperial. Argumenta-seque essas imagens, longe de serem apenas decorativas, exerciam função ativa na construção de discursos políticos e na conformação simbólica da paisagem urbana. O objetivo é destacar a moeda como suporte privilegiado da comunicação visual e da afirmação de valores no mundo romano.

Biografia do Autor

Vagner Carvalheiro Porto, Universidade de São Paulo

Professor de Arqueologia do Mediterrâneo Antigo no Programa de Pós-Graduação em Arqueologia do Museu de Arqueologia e Etnologia da USP. Coordena o Laboratório de Arqueologia Romana Provincial (LARP-MAE-USP; www.larp.mae.usp.br) e lidera os Grupos de Pesquisa do CNPq ARISE – Arqueologia Interativa e Simulações Eletrônicas (www.arise.mae.usp.br) e Numismática Antiga. É bolsista de Produtividade em Pesquisa do CNPq (nível 2). Desenvolve atualmente projeto sobre representações de estátuas nas moedas romanas: padrões iconográficos, circulação de modelos e influências regionais entre os séculos II e III EC (processo FAPESP 2025/04818-5), com foco na análise iconográfica de moedas provinciais romanas e sua relação com a circulação de modelos escultóricos entre o Mediterrâneo Oriental, Chipre, Anatólia Ocidental e o Egeu. O projeto investiga também o papel da mobilidade de artesãos na disseminação de estilos e na construção de identidades visuais regionais no contexto do Império Romano.
