Antropologia histórica da música popular brasileira

Abstract

Brazilian popular music has a great capacity to articulate with influences from abroad, transforming the foreigner into Brazilian. Also converting what music of low quality into good music. Since 1970 Brazil is one of the few countries where the consumption of music produced in the country has surpassed that one from abroad. This results from the mentioned capacities e from the ability of the transnational enterprises to adapt to the country. This ability follows two principles: concentration in three or four genres of music e diversification through the dissemination of other genres, to reach the biggest possible number of consumers. While this strategy has allowed them to get increasing profits, it also has made possible the dissemination of many genres that would have in another way remained unknown
