Abstract

Resumo: O propósito deste trabalho é analisar as relações entre salário real, produtividade, emprego e taxa de câmbio real na economia brasileira durante os anos 1990. Esse período é particularmente interessante, já que combinou liberalização comercial, valorização da moeda e aumentos elevados de produtividade. Com esse objetivo, testou-se, através de um modelo VEC, um modelo teórico baseado em concorrência monopolística. O modelo fez as previsões corretas quanto à relação salário real e produtividade, mas não quanto à relação salário real e emprego.

Abstract: This paper discusses the interrelations between real wages, the real exchange rate and productivity in the Brazilian economy during the nineties. This period is particularly interesting as it combined trade liberalization, the valorization of the Real and relatively high rates of growth of labor productivity. With this objective, a VEC model was used to test a theoretical model based on monopolisitic competition. The model predicted correctly the association between real wages and productivity, but it did not perform well as regards real wages and unemployment.
