Resumo

Cinquenta anos após ter sido formulada pela primeira vez, como podemos avaliar as maneiras pelas quais a perspectiva dos sistemas-mundo moldou nossa visão de mundo, e quais são seus limites e desafios, uma vez que nos encontramos no meio de uma reestruturação neoliberal das universidades e da ascensão de um populismo étnico reacionário em todo o mundo? O que veremos a seguir é o que C. Wright Mills chamou de imaginação sociológica: parte história intelectual e institucional, parte economia política e, inevitavelmente, parte autobiografia
