Abstract

The discussion presented in this paper is inspired in theoretical reflections
elaborated by the Brazilian geographer Bertha Becker, especially when theorizing
Amazonian space in terms of the “economic and techno-ecological frontier” in Brazil. Based on this premise, the concept of “urban frontier” is shown to be quite useful for understanding regional dynamics in the Amazon today as well as socio-spatial diversity and complexity.
