Abstract

The purpose of this article is to continue the debate about the increase of many cultural and museological areas of local-based in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro, which reflects the new political scenario and the conservative cultural landscape that the city has been building, besides, it has been challenging distinct local cultural agents (cultural producers, curators, teachers, artists, craftsmen, storytellers) to erect aesthetic and cultural spaces to make a counterpoint to the tendency that has been seen in the outskirt regions of Rio de Janeiro: destruction of the architectural heritage, weakening of popular cultural expressions and the rupture of the rural-agricultural way of living in which, for decades, has characterized this region that has already been called by some geographical terms such as (backwood, hinterland, outskirts), in which to the actual post-modern paradigm in the governmental sphere and in the hegemonic sectors of society, simply do not fit within the dominant image of the city that is wished to be promoted.
