Abstract

This article discusses and analyzes the Cirio de Narazé procession in Belém (Pará state) considering the relationship between festivity and urban space. This annual mega-event is considered to be Cultural Heritage of Humanity and has profound effects on commerce and on the dynamics of appropriation of urban space. Methods included a survey of publications that deal with festivity, daily life and the production of space in a Lefebvrean perspective. The analysis shows that the procession interferes with urban space, both temporarily and permanently, due to touristization, which may end up reducing the right to the city of the inhabitants and the visitors.
