Border security is a multifaceted reality in which local issues are articulated with national, regional and international problems. This article analyzes the Paraguayan and Uruguayan security challenges along the border with Brazil. The central issue is: do Paraguayan and Uruguayan policies corroborate border security and incorporate explicit vectors of border cooperation and integration with Brazil? It is argued that security challenges exist on both borders and in the three countries studied but bilateral cooperation raises the quality and the results of border security and defense between the neighboring countries. This article used official documents and the literature on border studies and international relations.Metrics
