This text treats the theme of port-city relationships and uses the port of Santos as an example. First, a brief introduction to the subject is presented showing the historical interrelationship between these two distinct spatial entities. Different theoretical models on the relationship between ports and cities are discussed showing how different authors share a common spatial-temporal approach. The case of Santos is then treated and a historical brief of the relationship between the port and the city is presented in the form of a representation scheme of how the relationship changed over time.
