Abstract

This article builds the primary points raised in my presentation at the round table “Management architectures and development policies in the state of Rio de Janeiro,” within the scope of Seminar GeTERJ-15 years, in 2021. The central argument of this work is based on the assumption that the state of Rio de Janeiro wants to face the challenges presented by global changes. I mobilize the concepts of sustainability and frontier to guide the discussion, mainly considering the aspects of its location and position in the Southeast region of the country. The points raised underlined the need for institutional arrangements that place sustainability at the core of these arrangements.
