NOTES ON THE ORIGINS OF SWIMMING IN BRAZIL
Abstract
The article proposes an overview of the initial moments of swimming in Brazil, relating it to the trajectory of Tijuca Tênis Clube as a sports institution. The objective is to interpret the meanings attributed to this practice in the historical context of the transition from the 19th to the 20th century in Rio de Janeiro through sources such as newspapers and club documents, in order to highlight the relevance of the TTC in this scenario.
